The department educates residents on proper recycling, solid waste and yard waste guidelines through council and ward meetings, community meetings, and school presentations, social workshops on an individual basis in person or via phone or electronic communication.

The teens and older adults will participate together in high adventure activities such as whitewater river rafting, high-ropes course, hiking, boating and more. The Hope Park Project will focus on teen exposed to domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, marginalized communities, communities of color, low-income youth and youth from at-risk environments. Teens participating in this project will be selected through outreach in local high schools, youth groups, community programs and referrals from partner agencies. The volunteer older adults will be put through a background check, fingerprinted, and cleared through the National Sex Offender Registry before interacting with youth. All older adult volunteers will be required to complete a volunteer academy with a minimum of 20 hours of training that will include but not be limited to: mental health first aid for youth, suicide awareness, motivational interviewing, mentoring, healthy relationships, teen dating violence, sexual assault prevention and intervention, domestic violence awareness, mandated child abuse reporter training, the 40-Developmental Assets, Hope theory and much more. Pathways to Hope for Children will recruit older adult volunteers (60+) that agree to participate in high adventure activities, meaningful engagement with teens, and commit to staffing the teen center from the hours of 2:30 p.m.
